Spicy Baked Beans with Bacon
Sent in by Chief Kerry Koen

Ingredients:

4 - 16 oz. cans - B&M "KC Masterpiece" Barbecue Brick Oven Baked Beans * 3/4 pound sliced bacon - cut into 1-1/2 inch pieces (approximate) 1 1/2-cups granulated sugar

* If KC Masterpiece Flavor beans are not available, then use B&M "Barbecue Flavor" beans and drain completely of all canned liquid. Replace 1/2 of the drained liquid with KC Masterpiece Bar-B-Que sauce and prepare as described above.

Directions:

1. Pre-heat oven to 350 F.

2. Drain the liquid from 1/2 of the cans of beans and discard.

3. Combine the drained and un-drained beans in large mixing bowl, add sugar and mix well. Let sugar dissolve completely and mix again.

4. Pour into ungreased 12 X 9 X 2 inch pan. Completely cover the surface with the bacon pieces.

5. Bake uncovered for approximately 1 to 1-1/4 hours or until liquid is approximately 75% evaporated. Bacon should have begun to curl at this point.

6. Turn oven to broil and lightly brown the bacon.

7. Remove from oven and let stand for 15-20 minutes. Then, tightly cover with heavy-duty aluminum foil. Beans will remain warm for approximately 2-3 hours following preparation, and they can easily be re-heated with foil in place, even after being refrigerated. Re-heat at 170F.
