Apple Crisp
Nobody ever skips dessert when this is made in the firehouse!

Sent in by Jay Iacone, Fairfax County Fire Department

Ingredients:

1 doz Granny Smith apples
¼ cup flour
¼ cup sugar
Juice of one lemon
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cardamom

Crumb Topping

10 sugar or shortbread cookies, crushed
½ stick of butter at room temp
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup flour
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cardamom

Directions:

Peel and core apples and slice into bite size pieces into a bowl containing sugar, flour, lemon and spices. Toss the fruit until coated completely and turn into a 9" x 13" baking dish.

Mix all of the ingredients for the crumb topping and place over the fruit in the baking dish, evenly spreading to all edges and corners. Bake at 325 degrees for approximately 45 minutes to one hour until bubbling around the edges. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
